Rally and hearing – No more cuts to animal care in Sacramento County

Date: Monday, June 14, 2010
Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Location:South steps of County Administration Building
Street: 700 H Street
City/Town: Sacramento, CA

Our county is in a terrible financial crisis and our leaders face tough choices…

Despite making a $22 million public investment in a new state-of-the-art animal shelter, the past two years’ County budget cuts have meant a 40 percent reduction in animal care staff and more limited public hours for reuniting lost pets with their families and adopting out homeless animals. These cuts have cost animals their lives. Already, three out of five animals entering the County shelter don’t leave alive.

And it could get even worse. Just last month we got word that Sacramento County supervisors are contemplating yet another significant reduction to the animal shelter. Our County’s animals will suffer more and die in higher numbers if further cuts are made to the animal shelter.

If you want to stop this from happening, if you have ever adopted an animal, if you believe that we owe homeless pets a bare minimum of welfare and opportunity… then please join us at this rally.

Plan to stay for the budget hearings that will begin at 2 pm in the supervisors’ chambers. We need a huge show of support and this is the ONE remaining opportunity to affect the budget outcome. Even if you don’t speak at the hearing, your presence will show the Supervisors how important this is.

Please wear a RED shirt to symbolize our desire to stop the bleeding.

Thank you for caring about the most vulnerable members of our society.
