January 16, 2011 in CHAKO, L. Bear and Friends

Started off the morning by assisting Vanessa with Chako’s Obedience class It was fun, as these classes usually are. Met some great dogs and nice owners.

After that, I went to see my Bears! I haven’t seen them in sooo long and we had a bit of a reunion pawty. TBear and LBear were walked and pottied, I checked on Nuffs too. He was quite messy so I cleaned him up a bit. I also tried expressing but didn’t get anything.

Then I went to do a behavior evaluation on a possible new foster dog for Chako’s program. I may be getting my own new foster tomorrow as well.

I also had a litterbox cleaning job. I actually enjoy the cleaning jobs more than one would think, it’s a good feeling to know that the pets get a nice clean area to enjoy and it’s fun to take a step back when you are finished and see how nice it looks afterward!

January 12, 2011 in Georgia, Izzy & Reagan & Jersey, Kiki & Mickey, Kiki & Napoleon

Lots of kitties today (and two Kikis)!!!

Mickey was very curious about everything I was doing and followed me around while Kiki hung out on the bed and glared at me.

Jersey was being quite the little sassy pants today and I had to stop several times to tell her to stop pulling. Reagan behaved himself and princess Izzy didn’t give me any problems at all. Georgia tried really, really, really hard to hold her stay to get her collar on. She actually succeeded this time, I was very proud of her!

Kiki came running up to me once he realized who I was; I’m always happy when that happens. Napoleon eyed me with a little more caution before running toward the bed. Once there, he started running under the bed but when I stopped, he kept his rear end sticking out, taunting me to get closer.  He is such a silly cat!

Please note: the black spot in the photos is from my haunted camera. The spot recently moved into the camera and does not appear to want to move out anytime soon.

January 11, 2011 in CGC Shelter Dog Program, CHAKO, Izzy & Reagan & Jersey

Izzy walk today! We had a good walk but I was not able to get photos. All dogs went out, Izzy got fresh water, poop scooped and then everyone was put back to wait for Mom and Dad.

I also got confirmation that Annie and “This Dog” were adopted from City shelter and I’ve been working on embracing twitter.

January 10, 2011 in CGC Shelter Dog Program, CHAKO, Georgia, Izzy & Reagan & Jersey

I dropped my camera again. I thought it was okay, until I noticed a little black cloud chasing all the pets. Sadly, I will most likely need to replace this camera and yes, the little black cloud of camera doom is likely to be our frenemy for a while longer until I can get to the store and get it taken care of.

IMPORTANT NOTE: No pets have been harmed by the little black cloud of camera doom. Yet (we cannot trust it too much).

Now, on to your regularly scheduled blog post:

Walked Georgia, Jersey, and Reagan today. Cleaned up poo, both kinds (cat and dog). Got my volunteer on at City shelter with Chako’s Canine Good Citizen program, and went to a training class for Spay Day USA 2011. I will be one of many volunteers helping to schedule appointments. Good times, I tell ya!

January 9, 2011 in CGC Shelter Dog Program, CHAKO, Luli

Where’s Luli? She’s in there, I promise! We had another bit of  a struggle getting out to walk today but when we came back, Luli started prancing around and running up to me. She even let me sidle up to her on the couch and give her lots of pets. My heart just about melted when she rested that little head in my palm. I knew she’d come around!

Later in the afternoon, I headed on over to County of Sacramento Animal Care and Control on Bradshaw to take photos of our CGC Shelter dogs there and assist with pulling Junior. Well, Junior’s pull took longer than planned so I’ll have to go back for pictures of Patch and Jack. But it will be well worth the second trip out. You see, Junior was on the euthanasia list.

Junior was unfortunately involved in an attack by another dog. The other dog was the aggressor. You can see some of Junior’s wounds on his side in some of the photos. After the attack, Junior became temperamental around other dogs and started to show signs of kennel stress and he was deemed unadoptable and moved to Isolation and placed on the euthanasia list. Roland (another volunteer) did a full behavioral evaluation on Junior and found him to be very stable with humans and selectively reactive with other dogs. Chako was able to find a foster home for him and Roland and myself were there to witness Junior being freed from certain death.

Happy day, all around! If you are interested in adopting Junior, or know someone that may be, please share this blog post with them, visit our facebook page at www.facebook.com/chakopitbull, or email adoptions@chako.org.

January 8, 2011 in Luli

Meet Luli! She’s a persnickety little girl but I was able to (with a ton of treats) get her out to potty and back safely home. She is too darn cute. Looking forward to seeing her next, I wonder if she will remember that we are almost friends now.

December 16, 2010 in CHAKO, Cowboy, Georgia, Izzy & Reagan & Jersey, Jake & Roman

Missed Georgia yesterday, so I visited with her today. The fog was still pretty thick over the river and Georgia had fun nosing around in the damp grass.

I found a new setting on my camera for taking pictures of greenery and it’s pretty cool, I noticed when I was scrolling through pictures what a difference it makes, hopefully you will notice the difference as well.

Jersey was moody again today, but I convinced her to go out anyway. There is a little dog next door that was causing a ruckus and Reagan, Izzy, and Jersey all started in. The neighbor called the dog in though and everyone backed off when I asked them to.

Roman and Jake didn’t go out much due to the rain but they got plenty of cuddles and nice clean blankies.

I took Cowboy to a music store and to Pet Extreme on Sutterville for some socialization. Thanks to Pet Extreme for the toy donation!

December 2, 2010 in Bam-bam & The Cats, Bo & The Gang, Jake & Roman

How on Earth is it Thursday already???

Where or where did the week go?

Well, Bo is very unhappy about recent events and is having a lot of accidents in the house. Jake and Roman are still here, but I think I will take them to be with Bo tomorrow in the hope that it will make him feel more at home to have them there. In the meantime, Calvin and Jake have been having fun playing outside (when it isn’t raining, that is.) I have one sad little picture of Bo laying down to eat his dinner, sorry about the quality, it’s from my phone.  I spent some time with him this evening petting him and explaining what has been going on. I’m hoping he understood at least some of it.

I had my first visit with Bam-bam and the cats today. Bam-bam wasn’t ready for a walk, so I cleaned litterboxes and helped to set up a new litter station.

Later this evening, I met with a fun group of Sacramento-area pet sitters and trainers at a restaurant. It was really great to meet some other business owners from around town and now if I get a call from a potential client that is outside of my service area, I have a nice little stack of cards that I can refer to!

December 1, 2010 in Bo & The Gang, Georgia, Jake & Roman, Mr. Bean

Well I got to see my bestie Mr. Bean again! He has grown SO MUCH since last time I saw him, my little puppy is almost all grown up now! We had a nice little walk and he had fun playing in the leaves.

Georgia and I traipsed around the neighborhood, nothing too exciting happened but Georgia would probably disagree since every breath she takes is full of excitement for her!

Roman and Jake had playtime with Calvin. I also picked Bo up from a family friend’s house and took him back to his house.
