Boone is a CHAKO foster that I have volunteered to walk. We took nearly an hour stroll today through the park. He is going for a try-out weekend later this afternoon, if all goes well, he may very well find himself in a forever home. Of course I’d love to see that happen for him, but I will miss being able to walk him.
He is a bit out of shape and at one point during the walk, he decided he had enough and just stood there. I’m not one for pushing dogs past their limits, so we just hung out for a bit watching the sprinklers and the people walk by.
As we trotted home, we noticed a squirrel standing right in our path. Thinking that it would move out of the way, I kept going. The squirrel made a move forward then waited there until he got Boone good and excited and then he ran for the tree. But did he then do the nice thing and climb up the tree? Not this squirrel, he fluffed his courageous tail and waited until Boone was nearly on top of him before he finally scurried up the tree. Boone had to sniff all around the tree, and then look around the tree. He couldn’t figure out where the squirrel had gone. I didn’t see it with my own eyes, but I am pretty sure that the squirrel had his squirrel friends waiting to see what the dumb dog did. I picture lots of high-fiving and plans to harass the next poor dog that dares to walk by that tree.
Afterward, I spent some time chatting up his foster mom then it was off to see my Whit-bit!
